A Carbon Neutral Burial
We offer you the chance to be a lasting part of a growing woodland, a wonderful opportunity to
be at peace with the beauty of nature.
Our burial ground is part of an 4 acre woodland and wild life reserve begun only 5 years ago which now hosts a large variety of birds, amphibians, trees and flowers. Family and friends are welcome to enjoy the walks in Clayton's Wood before or after a burial, giving you time to appreciate the peace and beauty of this resting place, and to envisage how the burial ground will grow into a woodland. The burial ground has not been cultivated since the 13th century, and the original high rig and furrow is still visible today.
The position of each grave is carefully recorded on a plan and on computer. At the appropriate time of year, we will plant the tree or bush of your choice. Large and small native trees will be interspersed with shrubs and wild flowers to encourage natural development.
Burials take place in a biodegradable casket which made from wicker, willow, bamboo, cardboard or even in a simple woollen shroud. Cremated remains may be scattered, or buried in similar biodegradable caskets.
Kelsey Woodland is for people of all faiths and none. Traditional or informal funerals may be carried out with or without the guidance of a funeral director. It is your choice what type of service to hold.
